The 100 Common Mushrooms Challenge:

Selected Species Needing DNA Data in Intermountain Idaho

The species listed here represent 100 commonly observed mushrooms documented in the Fungi of Intermountain Idaho database. Each has multiple local collections, but currently lacks a DNA-confirmed collection from Intermountain Idaho. In some cases, the name represents a species that occurs elsewhere but may not be the same species as our local collections; in others, we simply have not yet generated DNA data from local material. The challenge is to obtain and sequence local collections of these common species, helping build a stronger molecular reference for the fungi of our region.

As species are successfully sequenced, they will be marked as completed and replaced with new candidates, keeping the 100 Common Mushrooms Challenge active.

Have you found one of these mushrooms? If you would like to contribute a specimen, feel free to contact us. We can provide advice on collecting and preserving specimens and help with the next steps toward sequencing.
