A picture of our “Current State”
DNA sequencing gives us another way to understand the fungi of Intermountain Idaho. The DNA report provides the underlying data; these trees offer a visual picture of those data, showing relationships among the fungi we have been able to sequence.
This is a current state, not a finished picture. Our understanding of these fungi is continually evolving. New studies may change how species are classified, our sequences may receive new names, relationships may become clearer, and new species will be added as they are sequenced. The trees will evolve along with our knowledge.
Each tree is identified by its location and year, such as Agaricaceae_ID_2026. The year indicates when that particular picture of our knowledge was assembled.
The trees are currently organized primarily by family. As a tree grows larger, it may be divided into genera to make the trees easier to explore and interpret.
The goal is continuous improvement: each new sequence adds another piece to the picture.
